Fishing downriggers, and outrigger gear
Fishing Downriggers: If you showed up on this page then you probably already know what they are, but maybe not… maybe you just weren’t sure. My goal is to make sure you do know what a fishing downrigger is before you leave.
Downriggers are generally taken offshore fishing where the water is hundreds of feet deep. The concept is that if you are fishing for something that is going to be very deep in the water, this device is very strong and reliable and more than likely you will be able to land that monster fish you have been waiting for.
A fishing downrigger is a rod, generally 2-3 feet in length, with a spool, and a steel cable. You can hook the fishing line onto the weighted steel cable and let it down to whatever depth you want. So that I make more sense to you, this technique is generally used when “trolling.”
Downriggers come both manual and electric. In my experience, most people prefer the electric. Think about this… how would you like to reel in a 200 lb yellow-fin tuna with 200 feet of steel, weighted cable too crank in by manual winch? Doesn’t sound too fun to me. Sounds more like work to me and when I am fishing, work is the last thing I want on my mind.
Obviously the electric downriggers are going to be more expensive, but hey… If you are going to go out for that special trip, you probably prefer the best equipment that you can get. That is where we come in. Check below for all of the fishing downriggers, and outrigger gear and keep checking back because we are always adding new additions to our store.
Offshore fishing sound fun, but don’t know what you are doing, or where you are going?
